What is Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI)?

Dynamic ad insertion (DAI) is podcast technology that inserts ads into episodes at playback time, so the ads can be targeted, updated, or swapped without re-editing the audio.

With DAI, ad slots are marked in an episode and filled dynamically when someone downloads it. That lets a show update sponsorships, run different ads for different audiences, and keep older episodes monetized as campaigns change.

This is mainly relevant to shows that monetize through advertising. For a firm using a podcast as marketing rather than a revenue product, DAI matters less — the 'ad' is often just your own call to action.

Understanding DAI still helps when evaluating hosts and thinking about future monetization or network participation.
